BET Gets Thumbs Down From Black Journalist

This is hilarious.
Not only did writers of the bloggosphere turn back Bet’s Hot Ghetto Mess; forcing most big advertisers to pullout, forcing the show to change its name and pushing it out of it’s primetime slot into late night; now professional writers in traditional media have taken their swat too.
The largest association of black writers, the National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) has given Bamboozled Exploitation Television a knee to the groin, by actually officially awarding BET the Thumbs Down Award at its annual convention this past weekend.
There seems to be a gathering tide turning against the Zambo-ing of BET and I hope the fire continues to heat up. Someone’s blog I was on the other day had a banner about Boycott BET and support TV One instead; I can get with that.
BET’s expressed target audience is 15 to 22 year olds. Now how many 15 year olds do you know paying cable bills? We grown folks need to go after our local cable carriers and satellite companies to dump BET in favor of some quality Black television.

I’m in aggreance with all of this. BET is horrible and it’s about time we get some grown and sexy tv for the more sophisticated black audience.
BET has been whack for a long time. Bob Johnson sold us out long before the sale to Viacom took place.
Mega Rich, ain’t that the truth. The Viacom deal just made the sellout literal instead of figurative.
BET is just rolling out more trash by the day. I just discovered the PSA they put out about a month ago “Read a Book”. I have it posted on my blog. It’s terrible. As if putting out this type of garbage is the only way to get our youth to read. The good thing is we are moving in the right direction to expose them for the greedy individuals they are.
I don’t disagree with any of the opinions posted but I need you to do onething for me. Please tell me what do you do when you get tired of turning the tv on and all you see is white things. Everything is about white idealism; how they live, the things they do, ect. What I am waiting on is a chance to get infront of my screen and having a choice of watching the people to who I could at least somewhat identify with in some ways and views. So, if there is another way to see some of these things please feel free to let me know. I am open to any suggestions because I too am tired of the short comings of the SOMEWHAT Black Entertainment Television channel. www.myspace.com/deelee58
AJ, I think we all need to keep up the campaign and build this moment long term, and maybe we can do something to topple this crap; or at the least bring balance.
